Environmental Services

Objectives

Target participants of the “Hire and Train” Scheme (the “Scheme”) are those who are middle-aged (mainly homemakers). Under the “Scheme” implemented in Environmental Services Industry, hired trainees will receive relevant basic knowledge of environmental hygiene and cleaning and occupational safety within working hours during the employment period. Upon completion of designated course, hired trainees will formally perform the duties of University Residential Hall Cleaning Workers. Under the terms of appointment, arrangements of working hours and leave schedule will fit the needs of trainees’ family roles.

 

Content of the "Scheme"

Under the “Scheme”, an appointed training body of the ERB (The Society of Rehabilitation and Crime Prevention, Hong Kong) will arrange for the provision of on-the-job training for trainees while the employer (Shiu Hang Cleaning Services Co. Ltd.) will recruit 18 University Residential Hall Cleaning Workers and arrange them for training.

 

"Hire"

Appointment terms of the target job set out by the participating employer under the “Scheme” are as follows:

 

Participating Employer: Shiu Hang Cleaning Services Co. Ltd.

Post title:

University Residential Hall Cleaning Worker

Entry requirements:

  • Primary Six or above
  • Applicants who have not completed Primary Six are required to pass the Chinese written entry test

Appointment period:

From 23 January 2024 (continuous appointment)

Remuneration:

  • HK$62.5 per hour
  • If overtime work is required, overtime payment will be calculated at 120% of the hourly rate
  • Upon continuous service of 3 months, employees are entitled to 7-day paid annual leave during first year of appointment; entitlement of annual leave will progressively increase to a maximum of 14 days in accordance with employee’s years of service
  • Statutory holidays with pay upon continuous service of 3 months in accordance with Employment Ordinance 
  • MPF contributions
  • Additional incentive of HK$10 per day will be rewarded to employees who work for more than 15 days during a calendar month

Working hours and leave arrangements:

  • 8 hours per day between 8:00am and 8:00pm without meal break, at least 3 days per week; working hours will not be less than 24 hours per week; shifts and day-offs in turns
  • Working time may vary, subject to the request of relevant clients.  However, such change is temporary, and will not affect the total scheduled working hours per day.

Working location:

University Residential Halls on Hong Kong Island

Incentives for retention:

  • The employer will offer incentives to encourage trainees to stay in their jobs, including Outstanding Staff Award, Academic Achievement Award, graduation party, annual corporate trip, festive gifts and parties, etc.
  • The training body will arrange placement officers to assist trainees in job adaptation, and provide trainees with employment counseling services and information of social services resources.

"Train"

Hired trainees will be arranged to attend the “Foundation Certificate in Practical Knowledge for Environmental Hygiene and Cleaning (Part-time)” Course with duration of 24 hours during working hours. Upon successful completion of the above course, trainees will be awarded graduation certificate.

The employer will arrange experienced staff as mentor to provide trainees with on-the-job practical skills training and guidance, and assist trainees to adapt to the working environment.
