Healthcare Services

Objectives

Target participants of the “Hire and Train” Scheme (the “Scheme”) are those who are middle-aged (mainly homemakers).  Under the “Scheme” implemented in Healthcare Services Industry, hired trainees will receive training on basic skills of elderly care within working hours during the employment period. Upon completion of designated course, hired trainees will formally perform the duties of Care Worker, and be able to master the skills required for daily duties of a Care Worker.  Under the terms of appointment, arrangements of working hours and leave schedule will fit the needs of trainees’ family roles.

 

Content of the "Scheme"

Under the “Scheme”, an appointed training body of the ERB (KCRA Community Education Enhancement Center Limited) will arrange for the provision of on-the-job training for trainees while the employer (The Salvation Army (Social Services Department)) will recruit 24 Care Workers and arrange them for training.

 

"Hire"

Appointment terms of the target job set out by the participating employer under the “Scheme” are as follows:

Entry requirements:

  • Primary 6
  • Holder of a valid First Aid Certificate is preferred
  • Required to complete a medical examination arranged by the employer before employment
  • Apply for the Sexual Conviction Record Check within 1 month after upon employment (as applicable according to service needs)

Appointment period:

13 November 2023 to 31 October 2024 (Tentative)

Remuneration:

  • Care Worker Trainee: Monthly salary of $17,700; benefits include 12-day paid annual leave and vacation leave, full paid sick leave, family leave, marriage leave, compassionate leave, public holidays, and medical and life insurance
  • Part time Care Worker Trainee: Monthly salary of $10,800; benefits include paid annual leave stipulated by Employment Ordinance, full paid sick leave, family leave, marriage leave, compassionate leave and statutory holidays

Working hours:

    Care Worker Trainee:

    • 45 working hours per week; 6-day week; off on Saturdays or Sundays
    • 7.5 working hours per day (excluding meal breaks), shift duty is required according to service needs:
    • Residential Services:
      • 7:00 am to 3:00 pm; or
      • 8:00 am to 4:00 pm; or
      • 9:00 am to 5:00 pm; or
      • 2:00 pm to 10:00 pm

    (0.5-hour meal break)

    • Home Care Services:
      • 8:00 am to 4:30 pm; or
      • 9:30 am to 6:00 pm

                (1-hour meal break)

    • Day Care Centres:
      • 8:00 am to 4:00 pm; or
      • 9:00 am to 5:00 pm

    (0.5-hour meal break)

    Part time Care Worker Trainee:

    • 30 working hours per week; 5-day week; off on Saturdays or Sundays, another day-off is subject to staffing arrangement of the service unit
    • 6 working hours per day (with a 30-minute meal break), shift duty is required according to service needs:
    • Residential Services, any 6 hours between 7:00am to 6:00pm, for example:
      • 7:00 am to 1:00 pm; or
      • 8:00 am to 2:00 pm; or
      • 9:00 am to 3:00 pm; or
      • 10:00 am to 4:00 pm
    • Home Care Services:
      • 8:00 am to 2:00 pm; or
      • 9:00 am to 3:00 pm; or
      • 10:00 am to 4:00 pm; or
      • 11:00 am to 5:00 pm
    • Day Care Centres:
      • 9:00 am to 3:00 pm; or
      • 10:00 am to 4:00 pm

    Working location:

    To be arranged by the employer, locations include Residence for Senior Citizens, Integrated Home Care Service Team, Day Care Centre for Senior Citizens or Hostel in Shatin, Ma On Shan, Tai Po, Yuen Long, Tseung Kwan O, Lam Tin, Mong Kok, Yau Ma Tei or Wong Tai Sin

    Incentives for retention:

    The employer will offer incentives to encourage trainees to stay in their jobs, including provision of on-the-job practical skills training by designated staff

    "Train"

    On-the-job training will include a Skills Upgrading course, namely Foundation Certificate in Training for Care Workers (Part-time), with duration of 24 hours.

    Upon successful completion of the above course, trainees will be awarded graduation certificate recognised by the “Qualifications Framework” respectively.

    The employers will arrange an experienced full-time staff as mentor to provide trainees with on-the-job practical skills training and guidance, and assist trainees to adapt to the working environment.
